Dubai/Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates COUN 505: Human Development Dr. Saundra Tabet  The travel portion is from Jan 5, 2022 – Jan 19, 2022 Classes will be offered each day and attendance at all sessions is mandatory, given the condensed schedule. 
3 Post-sessions will be held before the trip and 1 Post-session will be held after the trip. 
 
 

Course Descriptions

COUN 505: Human Development (3 units)

Students examine growth and development throughout the lifespan including physical, cognitive, social, and psychological functioning Individual and group differences are studied. Students learn proactive program development and counseling strategies to enhance development and to address development and transitional issues in development at all ages. This course covers major development issues in physical, cognitive, and social/emotional from infancy, toddlerhood, early childhood, childhood, middle childhood, adolescence, early adulthood, middle adulthood and late adulthood. The course is designed to help the student think through “issues” in development to be a critical thinker. The course has an international and cross-cultural component that will be held in Dubai and Abu Dhabi that will help students see the relevance of the content in a multicultural society.

Notes about program costs:

  1. TUITION for this program is at the reduced SOLES Global tuition rate of $850/unit.
     
  2. TRAVEL EXPENSES are estimated at $2,175. The program fee includes on-site logistical items such as lodging, classroom rentals, speakers, some group activities, meals and transportation to class activities. If you apply and are accepted to this program then withdraw, any costs incurred on your behalf will be charged to your student account.
     
  3. GLOBAL STUDY FEE is $400. A non-refundable charge of $150 will be placed on your student account for all withdrawals after Sept 16, 2021. Any withdrawal on or after Sept 26th, the entire $400 will be placed on your student account.
     
  4. ACCOMMODATION costs are built into the program.  Housing is provided from January 5 (check in date) to January 19 (check out date). Additional housing charges may be assessed if students drop the class after hotel accommodations are made on their behalf. Accepted students will be provided with further information regarding the group hotel and will be asked their housing preferences.
     
  5. AIRFARE is not charged to your student account. Students are responsible for purchasing their own airfare. Please check current airfare using your departure and return cities for a more accurate estimate.
     
  6. WITHDRAWAL/REFUND POLICY.  If at any point after enrolling in the program you decide that you wish to cancel your participation, you must submit written notification to the Global Center <globalcenter@sandiego.edu>. Application

The application window for the program is from Wednesday, September 1, 2021 at 12:00pm to Wednesday, September 15, 2021 at 11:59PM. To be considered for acceptance, your online application must be complete by this date.  Applicants will be notified of acceptance by September 16, 2020.  If you have already opened an online application, continue working on it by visiting the direct login page.
 

Visa Information


Accepted students should apply immediately for any necessary tourist visas. Students are solely responsible for obtaining their own visas. If you are required to obtain a visa, you may apply directly through the host country's consulate for a tourist visa. Contact Lindsay Allen, SOLES Global Center Coordinator for an introductory letter and proof of insurance if required. The information provided below applies to U.S. citizens.

U.S. citizens are subject to all UAE immigration laws. U.S. citizens should familiarize themselves with such laws before traveling to, or residing in, the UAE. A passport valid for at least six months beyond the date of entry is required to enter the UAE. This requirement is strictly enforced by UAE officials and those not meeting the requirement will be denied entry. Visit the Embassy of the United Arab Emirates website for the most current visa entry/exit requirement information.
