Course Description
EDUC 579I: EDUCATION IN POST-COLONIAL CONTEXTS (3 units)
With a strong focus on social justice, this course introduces students to an analysis of the post-colonial impact of globalization on education, with particular reference to international development and the international aid agenda. It examines the complex inter- and intra-national dynamics, interrogating systemic patterns of social inequality abroad and in the United States, and situating our personal teaching practices in local-global awareness. The travel section of the course will occur in India and offers an opportunity to learn from and collaborate with graduate students from the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), a premier higher education institution in Mumbai, India. Finally, students will meet up for a post-session to present their travel observations.
Master of Education Online students and students are also encouraged to apply. Pre-departure sessions will also be available for students enrolled in these programs. Graduate students in the Kroc School and the International Relations are also eligible to take this course after seeking clearance from their respective departments.
