Instituto y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey
Fall/Spring Semester Program
Guadalajara is Mexico's second largest city. Located in the state of Jalisco, the city spreads out over a mile-high plateau 300 miles northwest of Mexico City and 150 miles east of Puerto Vallarta. Its altitude provides Guadalajara with a spring-like climate year round, with high temperatures in the seventies during the winter and summer seasons. While Guadalajara prides itself on maintaining its reputation as Mexico's most traditional city, it has established itself as a modern and efficient metropolitan area. Today lavish colonial buildings stand side-by-side with ultra-contemporary structures housing communications, computer, and other high-tech industries. Tapatíos (as residents of Guadalajara like to be called) and tourists alike enjoy this combination of tradition and modernity, because it provides urban advantages without the anonymity and overwhelming size typical of many large cities.
Tecnológico de Monterrey (ITESM) was founded in 1943 by a group of Mexican businessmen who created the association called Enseñanza e Investigación Superior, A.C. (Teaching and Research in Higher Education). In the following years, similar associations were set up to undertake the establishment of campuses in cities other than the city of Monterrey, including Guadalajara. Currently, 33 campuses located in the most important cities in Mexico constitute the Tecnológico de Monterrey Educational System.
In this program, students will directly enroll at the ITESM Guadalajara campus and take courses taught in English or Spanish.
Students are advised to select five primary courses plus five alternates.
All courses must be approved by USD for transfer prior to departure. Students are advised to start the process well in advance of the application deadline since processing can take weeks.
View the Pre-Approved Course List HERE. NOTE: Core curriculum designations on this list pertain to OLD core only.
Spanish Proficiency: TEC de Monterrey, campus Guadalajara helps to place exchange students at the correct Spanish level. All the exchange students who come from non-Spanish speaker countries have to take the Spanish Placement exam. Once finished with the exam process, a students' level will be determined by the Language department. Students will then be able to register in the correct Spanish courses.
