Sundance Film Festival

USD Intersession Program

Each year the Sundance Film Festival selects 200 films for exhibition from more than 9,000 submissions. More than 50,000 people attend screenings in twelve theatres in Park City, Salt Lake City, Ogden, and Sundance, Utah. In addition to discovering film making's newest talent through the Festival's program of documentary, dramatic, and short film, Festival goers experience live music shows, panel discussions with leading filmmakers and industry figures, parties celebrating the Festival community, and more.

The course will run from January 15 (Sunday) to January 27 (Friday), 2017 in Park City, Utah.  Students fly into Salt Lake City, Utah and take a shuttle to Park City.  Mountain conditions in Park City are famous for their excellence.  Many students choose to spend their free time during the day taking advantage of some of the best snow in the world by strapping on their skis or snowboard and heading out to Park City's world-renowned slopes.

NOTE: USD Spring semester begins on Thursday, January 26th. Plan to speak with Dr. Pace and Dr. Pierson in regards to this program and the overlap in dates to best plan for your Spring semester courses.

The University of San Diego's Communication Department offers a two week COMM 433: American Independent Cinema course at the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah during intersession.  This course is an intense examination of the independent film industry during the Festival.  Students will engage the films and filmmakers firsthand through a series of lectures, screenings, panels, and small group discussions.  Classes are conducted in a conference room in the hotel.  There are a series of brief mandatory meetings in the Fall prior to departure.  Prerequisite: A strong interest in film.
