PROGRAM LOCATION 

Beijing is a city of contrasts - a modern Asian boom-town that strives to preserve the cultural landscape of its glorious past while all around the glass and steel emblems of its dynamic present flourish.  As the political and cultural capital of China, Beijing attracts people from all over the world.  While its new high-rises and financial institutions testify to its booming economy, remnants of Old Beijing remain.  Streets lined with dumpling and noodle stands, beautiful parks bedecked with pagodas, and 19th century homes with graceful four-walled courtyards still charm visitors from around the world.

 

ACADEMIC INSTITUTION 

Students who participate in this exchange program will enroll directly at the The Guanghua School of Management (GSM) at Peking University. As a leading business school in China, Guanghua School of Management at Peking University commits to provide the local and international business community with cutting-edge management knowledge and services. Founded in 1898, Peking University (PKU) is the first national university in Chinese modern history, with a high reputation in and outside China , owing to the abundant teaching resources and outstanding research level. Peking University now consists of 31 colleges and 14 departments, offering 101 undergraduate programs, 224 postgraduate programs, and 202 doctoral programs. The campus, known as "Yan Yuan" the garden of Yan, is situated at Haidian District in the western suburb of Beijing. It stands near to the Yuanmingyuan Garden and the Summer Palace.

Peking University is making great efforts to create more opportunities for international students from all over the world. In 2004, there were over 4,000 international students from about 80 countries, including 1,825 long-term students and approximately 2,600 short-term students. Among them, there were 1,292 Degree-Seeking students, including those seeking undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral degree.

COURSE INFORMATION 

Students are advised to select five primary courses plus five alternates. All courses must be approved by USD for transfer prior to departure. Click HERE to find out how to get courses approved by completing the Transfer Evaluation Process.  Students are advised to start the process well in advance of the application deadline since processing can take weeks.

Please note the following:

· Only Business courses are offered through the USD-Guanghua partnership at Peking University

· A finalized course list is released two months before a semester's start date.

· English-taught courses are quite limited. Courses tend to be for 2 or 3 credits. Each class lasts 3 hours and are taught once a week.

·  The list of Spring courses usually does not change dramatically, but courses in the Fall might change.

Pre-Approved Course List for Guanghua - Please note that not all courses listed in the pre-approved course list might be offered in the study abroad semester in which you are looking to participate. All courses are confirmed by Guanghua two months before the semester's start date.

HOUSING

·  Exchange students have the option to live on campus at the Global Village or to find off-campus apartments on their own.

 

· Global Village:

 

o Limited availability

 

o 3000RMB/per month or $482 per month. Cash payment is preferred

 

o Water, electricity, and internet are paid separately for a total cost of around $153 for 5 months

 

o 2 separate bedrooms are found inside each unit and a common space is shared. Rooms come equipped with a closet, pillows, sheets, twin-size bed, and computer desk.

 

o A kitchen and laundry room are shared by each floor resident
