St. Clare's Oxford College
Fall/Spring Semester Program
Oxford, an internationally respected intellectual center, combines traditional ceremony and the beauty of ancient buildings with the amenities of a lively, modern, industrial city. This cultural hub offers libraries, museums, art galleries, concert halls, theaters and cinemas, as well as parks and gardens, rivers, sports grounds, swimming pools and an ice rink. Just outside of the city center lies the picturesque countryside, easily reached by bus or bicycle. There are fast, frequent road and rail services to London (1 hour away), Heathrow, Gatwick, the Midlands and the West Country. Stratford-upon-Avon is also within easy reach.
This program, offered by St. Clare's, an independent international college in
St. Clare's Education Programme (for Liberal Studies majors)
Students at St. Clare's will be enrolled in small classes (usually 3-12 students) with other international students from all over the globe. All classes offered by St. Clare's available to USD students are listed on the Pre-Approved lists above. St. Clare's offers classes in almost every discipline and all USD core requirements except for science and engineering. Students must take four core courses and one tutorial course at St. Clare's. Please refer to the pre-approved list for this distinction. This has no relation to the USD core curriculum label.
Students are billed directly by St. Clare's for housing. Information about housing costs can be found in the program cost link at the top of this page. Students stay in residence hall style accommodations arranged by St. Clare's. You can choose between a twin or a single room. You can also choose a 'standard' or 'superior' room: students in standard rooms will be sharing a bathroom with a small number of other students, while students in superior rooms will have their own private shower and toilet.
- Students live in 5 houses, located within 15 minutes' walk the Bardwell Road Centre or a short bus ride away
- All College houses have a resident House Manager
- Bed linen and towels are provided
- Laundry facilities are available
PLEASE NOTE: The vast majority of students who choose to stay in the dorms do NOT choose to include meals with their housing, as the semester meal plan only includes lunch Monday-Friday. Students will have access to a kitchen, and in many cases, it ends up being more economical to cook and eat out than pay for the meal plan. Additionally, because of your course schedule, you might not be near the cafeteria around lunchtime.
For a detailed description of program costs please see the Program Cost in the box at the top of this webpage.
Students who hold a US passport DO NOT need a visa to study at St. Clare's for one semester*. Students holding a passport from a country other than the US should visit the UK Embassy Visa and Immigration page to determine whether a visa is required.
*Liberal Studies students taking Education courses at St. Clare's WILL need to obtain a Tier 4 Student Visa to complete a school practicum during their semester at St. Clare's. Application instructions will be sent to you after your acceptance to the program.
