Program Description:

Centre for Medieval and Renaissaince Studies

Fall/Spring Semester Program

Oxford, an internationally respected intellectual center, combines traditional ceremony and the beauty of ancient buildings with the amenities of a lively, modern, industrial city. This cultural hub offers libraries, museums, art galleries, concert halls, theaters and cinemas, as well as parks and gardens, rivers, sports grounds, swimming pools and an ice rink. Just outside of the city center lies the picturesque countryside, easily reached by bus or bicycle. There are fast, frequent road and rail services to London, Heathrow, Gatwick, the Midlands, and the West Country. Stratford-upon-Avon is also within easy reach.

The Centre for Medieval & Renaissance Studies was founded in 1975 as a permanent, private institute in Oxford for the interdisciplinary study of the Middle Ages and the Renaissance. Students can receive either specialized training in Medieval and Renaissance Studies, or a more general training in the Liberal Arts. The curriculum includes a short-term course, one seminar course, and two tutorial courses. The Centre offers two regular 14-week semesters between September and April.

CMRS follows a rolling admissions policy, accepting suitably qualified candidates as they apply until all available places are filled. Visit the CMRS Web site
