Name: Caitlin Lawler
Major: Finance major, with an accounting minor
Languages: English, some Spanish
Study Abroad Program: Universidad Pontifica de Comillas in Madrid, Spain during the Fall 2011 semester.
International Experience: I studied and lived in Madrid, Spain for a semester. While there I visited a total of 17 cities in 8 countries: Spain, Germany, Portugal, France, Ireland, England, the Czech Republic, and the Netherlands. I have also traveled to Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Costa Rica.
Why I wanted to be a Peer Advisor in the Study Abroad Office: I had the experience of a lifetime studying abroad in Madrid and I want to share this experience with others, as I believe that it is an opportunity that everyone should get. I would love to share all of my experiences and lessons with other students and advise them on their travels abroad. I want to be a resource for students, because I know that studying abroad comes with many different emotions, from excitement to fear to nervousness. I want students to have a strong resource and be able to come to me with any questions and concerns about money, communication back to the U.S., classes, and anything else that they might be worried about studying abroad.
Best advice for students planning to study abroad: Be open to trying anything and everything. A lot of things might seem intimidating but do anything and everything you can to immerse yourself in the culture. Try things that you normally wouldn't. Try to travel as much as you can. Have the time of your life and savor every single moment because you will never be there in the same context again.clawler-13@sandiego.
