Megan Stromen- Semester at Sea
Name: Megan Stromen
Study Abroad Program: Semester at Sea Spring 2012
International Experience: While studying on Semester at Sea, I visited the Bahamas, Dominica, Brazil, Ghana, South Africa, Mauritius, India, Singapore, Vietnam, Hong Kong, China, Japan, and Hawaii. I have also traveled to Ireland, Mexico, and the Turks and Caicos.
Why I wanted to be a peer advisor in the Study Abroad Office: I wanted to be a part of the Peer Advisor Program after the life changing experience I had while sailing with Semester at Sea. After being unsure about studying abroad when I first came to USD, I am now a huge advocate for it. Studying abroad is not only a fantastic opportunity to learn about the country you are in, but also a wonderful time for self-discovery. I find myself telling everyone I know to spend time abroad while in college, and I would love to share my passion for the many benefits of studying abroad with potential study abroad participants.
Best advice for students planning to study abroad: Go in with an open mind about everything, push yourself out of your comfort zone and try things you normally wouldn't, and make sure to take lots of pictures!
